March 25th 1958 at Chicago Stadium, Chicago Illinois, USA, Carmen Basilio defends his World Middleweight Championship against Sugar Ray Robinson.

From the opening bell this fight was a brutal nonstop war switching from back and forth. Basilio’s left eye began to swell in round four. Robinson wasted no time in taking advantage scoring heavily in rounds five and six. Basilio’s eye had swollen tightly shut which left him visual impaired throughout the remainder of the fight. By the eleventh round Robinson was tired and lacked energy to avoid the fierce powerful blows from Basilio. Towards the last few rounds, Robinson picked up the aggressive pace which sealed his split decision win from two of the judges but the referee Frank Sikora, scored the fight to Basilio. Even though Robinson won, he was in too much pain to walk back to his dressing room, he was carried back on a stretcher and refused entry to the press.
